Wounded Game Tracking

Whether you are a whitetail buck hunting veteran, a youth hunter on your first outing, a die hard hunter, on a once-in-a-lifetime hunt, or an outfitter guide - we’ve all made an imperfect shot that leaves an animal wounded. Ethical hunters know to do everything in their power to recover that animal. Call a certified tracking dog to ensure your hard work and that animal’s life is not wasted.

Our Team & Process

We train our wounded game tracking dogs to perform scent specific tracking. They are not just tracking blood. When presented with the “hit site”, the dog will take in all of the odors associated with that animal - blood, tissue, dander, fur, pheremones. Once locked in on that animal, it will track it while ignoring fresh cross tracks of other game and humans. Our dogs are trained to work for a toy, which means their drive to recover your game is built to an extraordinarily high level. We will discuss the appropriate amount of time to wait to begin tracking your game to ensure a maximum chance of recovery.

Certifications matter in K9 work - our wounded game tracking teams are working towards certifications through the American Blood Trackers Association and United Blood Trackers. These certifications assure you that you are getting a K9 team capable of accomplishing specific standards in the field.

Tips for successfully utilizing a wounded game tracking team:

  • Back out sooner rather than later and do not grid search!

  • Jot down shot particulars - distance, shot placement, angle, equipment used, behavior after the shot, time of shot

  • Be honest about where and how you searched

  • What sign have you found

  • Be prepared to talk about property lines and permissions to access

  • Record and send GPS location of hit site
